Artificial Turf Installation in Tempe
Tempe started at a river crossing. In 1871 Charles Trumbull Hayden started a ferry across the Salt River below the butte, and the settlement that grew up around it was known as Hayden's Ferry. Water has been part of the story here from day one.

From Hayden's Ferry to a college town
The town got its name in 1879. Darrell Duppa, an Englishman, is credited with suggesting it, because the butte, the river and the green fields reminded him of the Vale of Tempe in ancient Greece. In 1885 the territorial legislature picked Tempe for the Territorial Normal School, which trained teachers. In 1958 that school became Arizona State University.
Today Tempe is home to more than 180,000 people, and it packs a lot into a small footprint. Mill Avenue runs just west of Hayden Butte, the one with the big "A" on its face. Tempe Town Lake opened to the public in November 1999 and turned a dry stretch of the Salt River into a lake. Papago Park, Kiwanis Park and miles of canal paths give the whole city somewhere to get outside.
That mix shows up in the yards. Longtime family homes, student rentals near campus, condos and townhomes, and HOA communities all sit within a few miles of each other. A lot of those yards have the same problem: a patch of grass that costs money to water every summer and still looks tired by August. We put turf where it earns its keep. Where the kids play. Where the dog runs. Where everyone ends up after the game. Desert landscape everywhere else.
From the neighborhoods around ASU to south Tempe, and out to Mesa, Chandler and Scottsdale, we are proud to work in Tempe and across the East Valley.

Why Tempe homeowners make the switch
Water is the big one. Turf eliminates routine lawn irrigation, and keeping grass alive through a Valley summer takes a lot of it. For the full math on what a grass lawn costs to keep alive in Arizona, read The Real Numbers Behind Your Lawn Upgrade.
Then there is the time. No mowing, no fertilizer, no overseeding, and no patching dead spots every summer. Turf does need a little care: a rinse now and then, a brush on high traffic areas, and regular cleanup in pet areas. It is far less work than keeping real grass alive in the desert.
Monsoon season matters here too. Every install sits on up to 3 inches of base material graded so water drains down and away. For storm season care tips, read Monsoon and Your Turf.
And yes, turf gets hot in direct summer sun. Shade, cooling infill options, lighter fiber choices and a quick rinse with the hose all help. We also check for energy efficient Low-E windows that can reflect concentrated sun onto turf, and we will walk your yard and show you where sun exposure matters.
Water rebates in Tempe
A rebate is a nice bonus, but the real savings with turf is never paying to water grass again. Tempe offers a grass removal rebate for converting grass to a low-water desert landscape. The converted area needs living plants that will cover at least 30 percent of it once they mature, and you need pre-approval from Tempe Water Conservation before any grass comes out. Check the City of Tempe grass removal rebate page for current rules and how turf fits your plan. Many homeowners take the rebate on a desert landscape section and put turf where they want usable green space, and we will help you plan the layout.

Frequently asked questions
How much does artificial turf cost in Tempe?
$6.00 to $12.00 per square foot installed. Minimums do apply. Putting greens run $9.00 to $20.00 per square foot installed, with a $2,500 project minimum.
I own a rental in Tempe. Is turf a good fit?
Often, yes. There is nothing for a tenant to water, mow or reseed, so the yard looks the same at move out as it did at move in. Pet areas still need regular cleanup, and we can recommend infill options for rentals that allow dogs.
Will my HOA approve artificial turf?
Most boards want to see the product data sheet, the specification and photos of comparable work before they approve. We put that HOA submittal package together for you at no charge.
Can I put turf in a dog yard?
Yes, and pet areas are a big part of what we install. We build them on up to 3 inches of base material graded to drain, skip weed barrier fabric in pet areas, and offer pet infill options including antimicrobial infill.
Does Tempe's water rebate cover artificial turf?
Not on its own. Tempe's grass removal rebate is for converting grass to a desert landscape, and the area needs living plants covering at least 30 percent of it at maturity. Many homeowners take the rebate on a desert landscape section and put turf where they want usable green space. Confirm the details with Tempe Water Conservation and get pre-approval before any grass comes out.
Do you serve Mesa, Chandler and Scottsdale?
Yes. We install throughout the East Valley and the rest of the Valley, and anywhere in Arizona for the right project.
