What Scottsdale's front yard rule says

In July 2023 the Scottsdale City Council unanimously approved an ordinance that bans natural grass from the front yards of new single-family homes built or permitted after August 15, 2023.

Two things people get wrong about it. First, it applies to new homes, not existing ones. Nobody is coming to make you tear out the lawn you already have. Second, it covers front yards on new builds, not your whole property.

Building new in Scottsdale and want a green front yard? Talk to us and your builder early, before the landscape plan and allowance are set. It is far easier to plan turf into a build than to redo a front yard afterward.
